Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey 64. 2% Alc. 2013
Nose: Rich rye spice, brown sugar. A wonderful aroma of light cherry and cola. A wisp of mint & cinnamon, but these are primarily darker rye notes. Candied allspice, then citrus peel & clove appear together.
Taste: Starts with classic rye spice and some cinnamon, mid-tongue it is richer and darker more akin to the richness of the nose, cherries and allspice. . This gets sweeter the longer it sits in my mouth, there is the smallest hint of oak.
Finish: Warm, a more floral spice lingers in my mouth on sides of my tongue, nothing bitter in this at all. The sweetness in the finish builds with each sip, the different spice notes of the nose are echoed, taking a nice long journey to soft cinnamon with a small hint of oak, but the sweetness from charred oak not dry.
